Smartie Pants!
Sometimes it amazes me what Autumn knows and understands... today I asked her "Do you know what's in the sky during the day?" and to my surprise she said "sun". I asked "what's in the sky at night?" and she said "moon". I was impressed (and encouraged since obviously somebody in this house actually listens to what I say - LOL).

Spanglish?
We watch Handy Manny and PBS and they introduce spanish words so I don't know if that's where Autumn is getting it from, but she adds a "o" to the end of some words. She says "done-o", "all-gone-o", and "plane-o" sometimes. That's about as much spanish as Dada knows!

My helper
Autumn spilled her sippy cup on the floor and I asked her if she'd help me clean up. She said "o-tay" and took the napkin from me and cleaned it all up on her own with a big smile... now if only I can get her to keep that attitude through her college years!
Bear Legs
If you haven't noticed, Autumn doesn't wear pants all the time! Today she added to the meaning of "bare legs" by dancing with "white bear" between her legs...we're not sure why, but she was loving it!

A mixed blessing...
We are thrilled at the progress that Autumn is making with her ever-expanding vocabulary and even putting words together to form simple sentences, but this morning, I didn't feel as excited when she stood there repeatedly yelling "Mama, I want cheese" while I tried to make her her cheese quesadilla as quickly as I could.

Huh?
This evening Autumn tried to tell me something that must have been very important... she told me the first time and I said "Honey, I don't know what you are saying". She took a few steps closer and repeated herself. Again, I have no clue. She came all the way over to me and said it again, this time louder. When I told her I still didn't understand she took my face in her hands, put her nose to my nose, looked me in the eyes, and said it quite loudly. I wanted to laugh since I still didn't know what she was saying nor where she learned to do that, but I didn't want her to be frustrated, so I asked her if she wanted Cheerios... the diversion worked!
New Words for this Week
She's really starting to make some short sentences - Monday morning she found an empty bowl and said "bowl gone". Yesterday she asked "whas dat, Dada". "Dada all gone" (meaning Dada's not here) and "Hi, Kitty" are a few more.

Bye-Bye Beach
Before we headed to the beach we went with Grandpa to a small airport and watched some planes take off. Autumn didn't really understand what was happening the first time, but the second plane that took off was way more exciting to her.
We thoroughly enjoyed our last day on the beach. It was another beautiful day and she split her time between running on the beach and in the water and playing in the sand. She chased a little girl who had on a purple bathing suit yelling "purple, purple" - clearly her favorite color! We found a huge sand pit that somebody had dug and she loved spending some time playing in there with Mama and Dada.

It's all about the sand!
Today Autumn wasn't into the water as much as the sand. She loved wet sand the most and enjoyed dumping the water from the large pail onto herself and the sand. Her level of concentration was intense while building and destroying the sand creations. Today she knew to listen for the "air pains" and boats and alerted us when they were coming. She enjoyed eating lunch in our sun tent - potato chips were something new for her and she couldn't get enough (thank goodness I had packed her her own baggie or else she would have wanted to eat the entire bag). After lunch she decided that the young couple (18-20 years old) in back of us were her new friends. She walked over to them and said "hi" and just stood there and waved at them. She greeted them many times and then went over and sat on the edge of the guy's towel. She took his hand and put it in the mesh pocket of his backpack where there was a granola bar. It's funny that I never even noticed the granola bar in there but she clearly did and wanted him to give it to her.

Cheese
Autumn now says "cheese" when she sees the camera - if she's not distracted by any fun activities at the time. I think she thinks a camera is actually called "cheese"!
Beach Babe
We were curious to see how Autumn would react to the beach but she LOVED it. She kept running into the water. Jim and "Pop" got a workout chasing her while I sat under the umbrella with my foot in a sock, plastic bag, and another sock on top to protect it from the sand and water - not much fun for me but watching her have a blast was awesome. After a while she discovered the sand but the water was her favorite today. She loved seeing the "air pains" and the boats but the birds were the biggest attraction - she chased the seagulls all over the beach (Dada must have run about a mile in total today chasing after her). She also thought that "public beach" meant that all toys on the beach were hers - she needed to be redirected from other children's toys many times. Thank goodness Gramma, Pop, and Aunt Lori had brought some things for her to play with!
